Many of our customers over the years have asked us about our Blanket Design Process. Our very first design was the "Counting Sheep" blanket; a replica of a 40 year old cherished childhood blanket. Initially, we found a factory that had Jacquard weaving machines and traveled with the tattered and torn prototype to see if the fabric, size, and durabilty could be replicated. We got the green light from the factory and began the process of deciding on designs. We found a graphic artist, Joe Lyons from Spin350 Creative, who started drawing the ideas that were in our heads.
The First Five ChappyWrap Designs from 2006:
The first five designs are still part of our Current Collection consisting of 46 Unique Designs that include Animals, Nautical, Sports, Stars, Stripes, Plaids, Polka Dots and more. In the beginning, we would come up with the new designs by asking our family and friends for design ideas. For the last three years, we have conducted a Design Search Contest during which we ask our customers what designs they would like to see on a ChappyWrap.
Here are the Design Search Winners 2011-2013:
BIRDS (sold out)
LOVES ME, LOVES ME NOT, LOVES ME (sold out)
Our talented graffic artists draw each new design idea, a weave file is created for the Jacquard Machines and the New ChappyWraps are woven. The "Bear Hug" is our most complicated design to date. Each line of his fur had to be drawn and we went back to the drawing board many times until he looked cozy and hairy enough! Here is the first drawing and the finished Bear Hug blanket design:
Recently, we have started working with Stephanie Brennan, an artist from Jackson, WY. She is a painter and designs custom stationary, special event invitations and handmade journals. She created the "Loves Me, Loves Me Not, Loves Me" daisy blanket design (below on the right) from one of her special notecards (below on the left).
Beate Rademacher is one of our other talented designers. She created the Cape & Islands Design. The first draft is on the left below and the completed design is on the right.
Thank you, Joe, Stephanie and Beate, for your creativity and providing exceptional design direction for ChappyWrap. Thank you to all the Design Search participants for sharing terrific Design Ideas. Please VOTE NOW for your favorite NEW design ideas in the 2014 ChappyWrap Design Search and we will turn the Winning Designs into ChappyWraps!!
